Ethiopia is facing its worst drought in 30 years. How will this affect social, economic and political life in the country?

The north-eastern area of Ethiopia is experiencing the worst drought in over 30 years. Agriculture and power production have already been significantly affected and close to eight million Ethiopians are in need of food aid.

The drought may lead to a long-term humanitarian crisis over the coming months, but this risk has been offset by the Ethiopian government and partners’ quick response.

The next View on Africa will be presented by Berouk Mesfin, a senior researcher based in Addis Ababa. He will describe the impact of the drought and its future implications.

La région du nord-est de l'Éthiopie connaît la pire sécheresse depuis plus de 30 ans. L'agriculture et la production d'énergie ont déjà été touchées de façon significative et près de huit millions d'Éthiopiens ont besoin d'aide alimentaire. La sécheresse peut conduire à une crise humanitaire à long terme au cours des prochains mois, mais ce risque a été compensé par une réponse rapide du gouvernement éthiopien et des partenaires.
