Return to constitutional order in Guinea: what’s at stake?
The 21 September constitutional referendum will be a major step towards normalising political life in the country.
Date: 2025-09-04
Time: 16:30 to 18:00
Venue: Online via Zoom
The 21 September 2025 referendum on Guinea’s new constitution comes four years after the coup that toppled Alpha Condé’s regime. The referendum is a prerequisite for holding elections and will mark the end of the country’s transition back to democracy.
However, controversies surrounding the draft constitution and national stakeholders’ lack of trust in the process pose significant challenges. Given that electoral crises have historically caused political instability in Guinea, it is vital that tensions are diffused to allow for a peaceful referendum and subsequent elections.
Simultaneous English-French interpretation will be provided.
