This briefing will be presented in French with live English translation.

Notable progress has been made to end the political stalemate in Guinea-Bissau. The appointment of a consensual prime minister, the formation of an inclusive government and the reopening of Parliament in April 2017 are steps in the right direction. But other key provisions of the 2016 Conakry Agreement are yet to be implemented, including institutional reforms.

This View on Africa is presented by Paulin Maurice Toupane, Researcher, ISS Dakar. He will discuss the major shortcomings of Guinea-Bissau’s institutional architecture and propose necessary reforms as the country prepares for legislative elections in November 2018.
