Is Kenya ready? Elections 2017

With slightly over a year to the next general elections, is Kenya on the right track?

With less than a year to go before general elections in Kenya, there are concerns about whether the country will be ready to deliver credible elections.

New commissioners to manage the 2017 elections are yet to be appointed. This is despite Parliament’s decision to endorse a report by the joint parliamentary committee on the exit of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in August, the introduction of reforms to the electoral laws and the resignation of the current IEBC commissioners in October.

This seminar will examine preparations for elections in 2017 and key challenges that require attention. It will highlight critical issues of integrity that must be borne in mind in the context of the prevailing electoral environment in Kenya.
