Can the AU reposition Africa in a changing global governance landscape?

The February summit is an opportunity to elect leaders able to confront internal and external challenges.

As African leaders prepare for the 38th African Union (AU) summit in mid-February, insecurity continues in Sudan, the Horn and Sahel, with clashes intensifying in east Democratic Republic of the Congo. Global governance and economic dynamics are also shifting, especially with the start of United States President Donald Trump’s second term.

Leadership will be pivotal in guiding the AU through these complexities, and this summit will elect a new AU Commission chair and deputy, and department heads.

This seminar will explore the possible impact of these pressing issues on summit discussions, leadership decisions and the AU’s role in addressing continental and global challenges.

This event is co-hosted by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) and the Institute for Peace and Security Studies (IPSS).

Simultaneous English-French interpretation will be provided.
