Peace and Security Council Report No 82

This report highlights the 27th AU Summit in Kigali, Rwanda, where women's rights, the AUC elections and continuing conflicts will come under the spotlight.

27th AU Summit, Kigali Women’s rights and the African Union Commission (AUC) elections top the agenda of the AU summit from 10–18 July 2016.

Candidates for the position of AUC chairperson are campaigning in the run-up to the elections.

The chairperson of the AUC has over the years taken on more and more responsibility to drive change in Africa.

A heavy burden rests on the AU to end the scourge of Joseph Kony and the Lord’s Resistance Army.

Taking stock: in the first six months of 2016, the PSC discussed the many conflicts that continue to plague the continent, such as those in Burundi, Somalia, Guinea Bissau and South Sudan.
