Access to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is indispensable to development, but what will it take for Africa to achieve universal access in 15 years? 

New research by the ISS uses the International Futures forecasting system to explore the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals that promise WASH to all by 2030.

The findings suggest that Africa is not on track to meet this goal. Two alternative scenarios – one moderate, the other aggressive – are modelled to assess the costs and benefits of accelerating access.

The full results are published in the latest paper in the African Futures series, which will be launched at the seminar. Copies of the paper will be available for distribution.
