A split in its ranks and a series of security operations aimed at degrading its capacity have not diminished Boko Haram’s ability to conduct violent attacks in the Lake Chad Basin region.

The recent release of 21 Chibok schoolgirls and overall improved coordination between Multi-National Joint Task Force countries are positive signs, but the fallout from the Boko Haram crisis has ushered in a devastating humanitarian situation with millions displaced and many facing serious food shortages.

This View on Africa will be presented by Omar S Mahmood, a Researcher in the Peace and Security Research Programme. He will discuss recent developments within Boko Haram, security operations directed at countering the group and reconstruction efforts in the region.
