View on Africa: DRC’s sham elections

Will there be protests after the polls and, if there is violence, how long will it last?

Elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) look set to go ahead on 23 December 2018. With the political playing field heavily skewed in favour of the ruling party, how the Congolese population responds to these elections will shape the country’s future.

This View on Africa is presented by Stephanie Wolters, Head of the Peace and Security Research Programme, ISS Pretoria. She discuss the DRC’s current political landscape, the election candidates and post-election scenarios.
