Uncertainty about elections in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is causing greater instability and exacerbating an already acute humanitarian crisis. Severe crackdowns on protests in December 2017 and January 2018 left at least 14 people killed. Can elections take place in this tense climate?

This View on Africa is presented by Stephanie Wolters, head of the ISS Peace and Security Research programme. She will discuss election prospects and options for international actors to engage constructively in the DRC.
