This policy brief summarises Jakkie Cilliers’ new book Africa First! which examines the continent’s current development pathway and how it can deliver on its potential. Cilliers presents an ambitious but realistic scenario to 2040 that sees improvements in economic growth, average income and poverty reduction.


About the author

Dr Jakkie Cilliers is the founder and former executive director of the Institute for Security Studies (ISS). He now serves as chair of the ISS board of trustees and heads the Africa Futures & Innovation (AFI) programme. Africa First! draws on a decade of AFI work on Africa’s prospects.
