As the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) continues to lose territories in Syria, Iraq and Libya, sub-Saharan Africa is gaining importance as a strategic region for the group. Reports of an exploratory ISIS presence in a growing list of countries including Nigeria, Niger, Cameroon, Chad, Kenya, Mali, Burkina Faso, Somalia and South Africa could mean that Africa becomes the next caliphate.

This View on Africa will be presented by Martin Ewi, a Senior Researcher in the Transnational Threats and International Crime division. He will provide an update on ISIS’ strategic and tactical expansion into Africa and what the continent can do to push back.
