View on Africa: how forecasting can help prevent violent conflict

Understanding how multiple risk factors will evolve in future is key.

Political instability in sub-Saharan Africa is driven by an intricate combination of risk factors, including demographics, poor development, regime type, cross-group discrimination and structural imbalances. Understanding which risks are increasing and how they interact in the long term is key to preventing violent conflict.

This View on Africa is presented by Julia Bello-Schünemann, ISS Senior Researcher based in Lagos. She will discuss how modelling and forecasting tools can support multilateral conflict prevention efforts.
