View on Africa: Boko Haram more dangerous after split?
Two Jihadist groups terrorise the Lake Chad region – but one poses a greater long-term threat.

Violent extremism in the Lake Chad region shifted gear when Boko Haram split into two groups in August 2016. The two factions have used distinct attack patterns aligned with their ideological positions. One group’s focus on building relationships with civilians rather than targeting them for attack, poses a long-term threat.
This View on Africa is presented by Ndubuisi Christian Ani, ISS Researcher based in Addis Ababa. He will discuss new research from two ISS reports on factional dynamics within Boko Haram and regional responses.
