Security cooperation in the age of strategic autonomy

Globally, partnerships are being re-assessed as countries and regions increasingly opt for more independence in their decision making.

Confronted with a shifting global landscape, countries worldwide are examining their existing partnerships to better leverage their strategic autonomy. Yet, how this is understood and what it means in practice differs between countries and regions.

This seminar will explore the varied interpretations of strategic autonomy. Panelists will answer two key questions: what are the main factors contributing to the rise of strategic autonomy, and what is the future of alliances in this age?

This event is hosted by the Institute for Security Studies (ISS) as part of our joint Regional Conference of the Council on Foreign Relations’ Council of Councils.

Moderator: Ottilia Anna Maunganidze, Head, Special Projects, ISS
