Lessons from 2019 elections in Nigeria and Senegal

Tensions before and after the polls are concerning for the development of Africa’s democracies.

Presidential elections in Nigeria and Senegal were generally peaceful, but tensions before the polls, and disputes and violence afterwards, raise important questions about the trajectory of democracy in some key African states. This seminar will discuss concerns and lessons for democracy and governance on the continent.
