How will global upheavals affect Africa?
In the first of a series, this seminar considers Africa’s prospects in relation to four long-term global scenarios.
Global upheaval is pervasive as power and influence shift Eastward, the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine takes hold, and pandemics such as COVID-19 and global health emergencies like monkeypox take their toll.
In the first of a series, this seminar will explore how global trends could impact Africa under four long-term scenarios. The scenarios reflect a focus on sustainability, economic growth, a retreat from globalisation (closest to the current trajectory) and lastly, a world at war. In the fourth scenario, competition between the West and its rivals, led by China, dominates all aspects of the global economy and politics, with violent outcomes.
