Can CAR achieve stability before elections in December?

The country has made progress on security and diplomatic fronts, but remains vulnerable to political tensions and social divisions.

For the past decade, the Central African Republic (CAR) has navigated political instability, armed conflict and fragile governance. But some developments have been positive, including repelling armed groups from the capital, lifting the arms embargo and preparations for elections in 2025.

Nevertheless, the country remains fragile. Security threats remain, humanitarian needs are still high, public finances are weak and there is potential for conflict to spill over from neighbouring countries, particularly Sudan.

Speakers at this seminar will discuss findings from a new ISS report and analysis on the CAR’s prospects, with a focus on how to achieve stability ahead of elections in December.

Simultaneous French-English interpretation will be provided.
