Assessing Ethiopia’s foreign policy in the Horn

The government’s new priorities have major implications for peace and stability in the region.

Since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took office in 2018, Ethiopia’s role in the Horn of Africa has shifted significantly. For example, Ethiopia helped broker a peace deal between conflicting parties in Sudan after al-Bashir’s downfall, and is pushing for strengthened regional integration. The government’s new priorities have major implications for peace and stability in the Horn.

This seminar will assess Ethiopia’s foreign policy towards neighbouring countries and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development, and discuss policy recommendations.
