Rationale for the training course
Governance occupies a central role in discussions of threats to human security and the possibilities for overcoming these threats. This course shared new perspectives and innovative approaches on how governance, development and human security policies can be created and/or influenced.
Participants
Course participants came from a various sectors, including ministries of foreign affairs (external relations), the United Nations, peacekeeping missions, government departments, civil society organisations, research centres, think tanks and academic institutions.
Course content and outcomes
The course presented the participants with an opportunity to improve their knowledge, skill and capacity to analyse governance and human security in theory and in practice. Emerging governance issues informing continental, regional and national human security policy and practice were also identified. Emerging non-state actors and norms that advance both global governance and human security were also defined.
