22 Sep 2009: ISS Launch: Addis Ababa: Launch of the African Peace Academy Programme
BY INVITATION ONLY
Launch of the African Peace Academy Programme jointly hosted by the Institute for Security Studies and Geneva Centre for Security Policy
Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia September 22, 2009
The Africa Peace Academy (APA) will promote peacebuilding in Africa by the provision of high-level education in African peace and security issues, within the context of complex and globalising security environment. APA is an initiative of the ISS with the support of the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) that currently provides similar services in Geneva.
APA’s core activity will be the provision of expert training at the conceptual and strategic level in African peace and security policy issues for mid-career diplomats, military officers, and civil servants from African foreign, defence, and other relevant ministries, as well as from international organizations and non-governmental organizations engaged with or working on African issues. Participants in APA courses will primarily come from Africa but also include participants from the international community and non-African organizations. In many senses it is modelled on the example of GCSP, but will draw its strength from the research capabilities of the ISS.
The full technical proposal for the APA is available from the Office of the ISS Executive Director ([email protected]), the ISS in Addis Ababa (acting director Mr Roba Sharamo [email protected]) or from the office of our partner organization in Geneva (Deputy Director Katharina Vogeli [email protected])
The programme for 22 September will commence at 10:00 am (tea/coffee will be available as from 9:30) and will conclude at 12:00 where after a lunch will be available.
Together with our colleagues from GCSP we look forward to your participation.Â
