Peace and Security Council Report No 47
This month our researchers in Pretoria, Dakar and Addis Ababa produced country analyses on Somalia and Mali and a Post-Summit Analysis on the recent African Union Summit that took place in Addis Ababa.
The previous country analysis on Somalia can be viewed in the October 2012 issue of the Peace and Security Council Report. A Retrospective on the AU role in Somalia also featured in the January 2013 edition. The current Country Analysis focuses on current security issues, the Jubaland process, the status of Somaliland and federal aspirations. The country analysis on Mali contains reflections for the settlement of the crisis prevailing in the country and which could worsen due to the persistence of the terrorist threat, violence between non-state armed groups, or risks associated with the contesting of elections that are held in poor conditions.
The post-summit analysis covers the 21st Summit deliberations of the AU Assembly of Heads of State and government, including the report submitted by the High Level Panel on Alternative Sources of Financing of the African Union. The analysis also discusses the report of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) on the state of peace and security in Africa.
