Repositioning Africa in a rapidly changing global order

This report explores Africa's strategic challenges and opportunities in a shifting global order, drawing on insights from policy experts.

This report analyses Africa's position in today's shifting global dynamics, highlighting challenges including ineffective continental institutions, persistent security conflicts and economic dependency. It offers recommendations for strengthening the African Union's effectiveness, enhancing peace capabilities, building strategic alliances, and addressing socio-economic issues to help Africa transition from a passive observer to an influential global actor.


About the author

 

Dr Andrews Atta-Asamoah heads the African Peace and Security Governance programme at ISS. He joined in 2019, previously serving on the UN Panel of Experts on South Sudan. He has also worked at KAIPTC in Ghana and holds a PhD from the University of Cape Town and a Master’s from the University of Ghana.
