The Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC’s) political future is looking increasingly grim. President Joseph Kabila’s recent nomination of a dissident member of the opposition, Bruno Tshibala, as prime minister jeopardises the December 2016 political accord. Meanwhile, the population is determined to maintain its pressure on the contested government, heeding calls for mass action amid a ban on public protests.

This View on Africa is presented by Stephanie Wolters, Head of the ISS Peace and Security Research Programme. She will discuss developments in the DRC and prospects for implementing the accord.
