Despite a boycott by the opposition and sporadic violence in parts of the country, Uhuru Kenyatta was declared the winner of Kenya’s repeat presidential election held on 26 October. But the end of elections doesn’t signal an end to Kenya’s political crisis.
This View on Africa briefing is presented by Simon Allison, Africa Editor of the Mail & Guardian and an ISS consultant. He will share his experience reporting on the Kenyan election rerun in Kisumu, an opposition stronghold, looking at how local leaders on both sides of the political divide contributed to rising tensions. Allison will also discuss options for resolving the political crisis and where Kenya goes from here.
