In October, Togo will host the African Union summit on maritime safety, security and development. Togolese authorities have worked hard to secure the country’s maritime domain since 2012, when it experienced the second largest number of piracy attacks in the Gulf of Guinea after Nigeria.

But many challenges remain. These, along with recommendations, are discussed in an upcoming ISS report on Togo’s maritime sector. 

The next View on Africa will be presented by Barthélémy Blédé, senior researcher in the Peace Operations and Peacebuilding division at ISS Dakar. He will discuss key findings from the report.

En Octobre prochain, le Togo abritera le sommet de l'Union africaine sur la sécurité et la sûreté maritimes et le développement. Les autorités togolaises déploient d’énormes efforts pour sécuriser leur domaine maritime depuis 2012 où le pays a enregistré, après le Nigeria, le plus grand nombre des attaques de piraterie perpétrées dans le golfe de Guinée.

Il reste néanmoins confronté à de nombreux défis maritimes qu'aborde le rapport de l'ISS qui formule aussi des recommandations.

Le prochain Vues d’Afrique sera présenté par Barthélémy Blédé, chercheur principal à la division Opérations de paix et consolidation de la paix au bureau de l'ISS à Dakar. Il discutera les principales conclusions du rapport.
