On 5 February, the much anticipated Zero Draft of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration was released. This came hot on the heels of African leaders adopting the watershed Protocol on Free Movement of People and the African Common Position on the Global Compact on Migration. This process aims to ensure that people are free to move rather than being forced to, or prevented from, doing so.

This View on Africa is presented by Ottilia Anna Maunganidze, head of Special Projects at ISS. She will discuss how recent developments on migration governance present an opportunity for Africa to finally get ahead of the migration debate.
