The UN has come under scrutiny in the past year. Three peace and security reviews were conducted on peace operations, peacebuilding, and women, peace and security. On 11 and 12 May, the General Assembly debated the findings of these reviews and hoped to harness existing support for improving UN responses.
But how will this work in practice? Will member states provide the necessary political support? And what is the role of regional bodies?
This View on Africa will be presented by Gustavo de Carvalho, a senior researcher at the ISS who was in New York to participate in the debates. He will discuss responses to the reviews and how to make the UN more effective.
