View on Africa: a major shift in Ethiopia’s refugee policy

How can Ethiopia deliver on the promise of its new and progressive refugee policy?

Ethiopia’s Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework (CRRF) is a major shift in the protection of refugees in the country. Not only will they have access to socio-economic opportunities but Ethiopian host communities will also benefit from jobs in industrial parks and better access to social services.

This forward-thinking refugee policy is not without its challenges. Ethnic and resource-related tensions, low wage employment and capacity limitations will need to be confronted.

This View on Africa is presented by Tsion Tadesse Abebe, ISS Senior Researcher on migration in Addis Ababa. She will discuss the benefits of the CRRF to refugees, host communities and the government and how to overcome implementation hurdles.
