Post-election analysis of Zimbabwe’s July poll

A panel of experts will give diverse views on Zimbabwe’s post-election controversies.

Many Zimbabwean analysts and academics predicted a convincing win for Nelson Chamisa in the country’s 30 July presidential poll, as did his party, the MDC Alliance. This is despite an Afrobarometer survey shortly before the election, giving Emmerson Mnangagwa a slight edge. Either the predictions were wrong, or the official results are fraudulent. The Constitutional Court ruling doesn’t take matters further, as the court refused to consider Chamisa’s claims without ‘primary’ evidence.

This seminar will discuss these and other post-election controversies. A panel of experts will give a diverse range of views and comment on likely post-election trajectories of Zimbabwe, ZANU-PF and the country’s opposition parties.

This seminar is co-hosted with Violet Gonda and SAPES Trust.
