Population futures: Revisiting South Africa's National Development Plan 2030

How many people will live in South Africa in 2030, and where in South Africa will they live? A critical question that has implications across all areas of public policy, including service delivery, employment, education, and healthcare. This event launches the second in our series of three briefs analysing the National Development Plan 2030 (NDP). The brief argues that the effects of migration are not sufficiently accounted for in the NDP forecasts, and that in 2030 the population of South Africa, as well as provinces like Gauteng and the Western Cape, may be much bigger than the Plan expects.
