Migration vs free trade: Africa doesn’t have to choose

Securitised approaches to migration that restrict the free movement of persons will make stimulating continental trade difficult.

The inaugural Africa Migration Report produced by the African Union (AU) Commission and International Organisation for Migration challenges the distorted narratives about migration in and out of Africa. Launched on 15 October, the report also deals with migration data, health, climate change and security.

Experts at this seminar will discuss the impact of heavy-handed security responses on migration within the continent, the free movement of persons and the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The seminar is part of Africa Migration Report’s thematic launches and is co-hosted with the International Organisation for Migration.

Simultaneous French interpretation will be provided for this event.
