Lessons on responding to political transitions that go wrong

Regional and international actors can learn from recent examples of how transfers of political power threaten stability.

Although the number of African countries holding elections has increased over the last six decades, recent coups in Mali, Guinea, Burkina Faso and Sudan highlight the fragility of these democratic gains. This seminar will interrogate the complexity of Africa’s political transitions, and responses to them across different regions of the continent.

This event is co-hosted by the Institute for Security Studies and the Embassy of Australia in Addis Ababa.

Simultaneous English–French interpretation will be provided at this seminar.
