Lessons from AMISOM drawdown for peacekeeping in Africa

This seminar discusses a new ISS study on funding constraints and implications for AU partnerships for peace operations.

After 10 years, the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) is preparing to withdraw. But the pace and conditions for the drawdown remain uncertain. Funding constraints and the slow development of Somalia’s security sector are key challenges.

This seminar will examine these issues and launch a new ISS report on the impact of European Union (EU) funding decisions on AMISOM. The authors of the report will discuss their findings with representatives from the African Union (AU) and EU, and the implications for future partnerships in Somalia and the continent.

The seminar will be conducted in English, with French translation available. Copies of the ISS report in French and English will be available.
