As the continent increasingly looks towards addressing the root causes of violence through peacebuilding and post-conflict development strategies, there is an opportunity for South Africa to engage with the African Union (AU) through its forthcoming aid agency – the South African Development Partnership Agency (SADPA).

In this seminar, held in conjunction with the University of Johannesburg and the University of Pretoria, Amanda Lucey will present the findings of field research carried out by the Institute for Security Studies in Ethiopia in March 2014, which examined the perceptions of stakeholders on South Africa’s role in post-conflict reconstruction and development (PCRD) within the AU. The presentation draws on the AU’s PCRD framework and the African Solidarity Initiative as a basis for South African engagement, and makes recommendations for the future.
