DRC under Felix Tshisekedi – what to expect
How will emerging power structures in the DRC affect the future of the country?
President Felix Tshisekedi’s ability to act independently is limited by the fact that the Front Commun pour le Congo (FCC) coalition led by former president Joseph Kabila has won the majority in Parliament and in the provincial assemblies. In addition, the agreement between FCC and Tshisekedi’s Cap pour le Changement (Cach) signed in March already seems to be breaking down.
This seminar will cover key political developments since Tshisekedi’s inauguration following contested elections in 2018. Will the DRC’s new political reality be one of ongoing struggles between the former ruling party and the presidency? Will Tshisekedi find ways to manoeuvre, and how might this impact governance and development in the country?
