African futures 2035: key trends

Things are improving in some places, but not everywhere and not for everybody.

Several major transitions are shaping Africa’s future. Overall, the story is a positive one, but this trend is neither stable nor even. Africa’s long-term prospects for development are improving, but many structural challenges remain.

Demographic change along with economic, technological, urban and socio-political transformation will have far-reaching implications for Africa’s growth, human development and stability.

This seminar will present a broad overview of the major trends shaping Africa to 2035, drawn from a comprehensive report on the topic. This includes a discussion of the ability of African states to meet select Sustainable Development Goals and the returns to development from doing so.

A policy brief that summarises the results will be available at the seminar. A seminar programme can be downloaded here
