Africa First! Igniting a growth revolution

What needs to be done to unleash Africa’s potential and accelerate economic growth?

This event has been postponed until further notice

With its vast natural resources and young population, Africa is a continent with boundless potential. Yet, it lags behind as the rest of the world prospers. Why is this gap growing? Africa has seen improvements in infant mortality and life expectancy, but still suffers from massive poverty, weak economic growth, deindustrialisation, an underdeveloped agricultural sector and poor regional integration, among others.

This seminar will launch Dr Jakkie Cilliers’ new book, Africa First! Speakers will examine the continent’s projected slow growth to 2040, and what is needed to help turn Africa’s fortunes around.

Chair: Ottilia Anna Maunganidze, Head of Special Projects, ISS

Speakers:

Dr Jakkie Cilliers, Chairperson of the ISS Board of Trustees and Head, African Futures & Innovation, ISS
