Africa First: Can South Africa ride Africa’s development wave?

An ISS panel at Daily Maverick’s The Gathering: 2020 debates SA’s place in Africa’s future growth story.

Africa has boundless potential, and yet the income gap between Africa and the rest of the world looks set to continue widening into the future. A key reason is slow growth in regional economic engines like South Africa. The Institute for Security Studies (ISS) is hosting a panel at Daily Maverick’s The Gathering: 2020 on how to ignite growth in Africa and what South Africa must do to capitalise on the continent’s vast potential. Join the debate about which solutions can put Africa first.

ISS will also be speaking and moderating on other panels at the conference. A forum for meaningful dialogue that inspires action, this year Daily Maverick’s The Gathering: 2020 is a call to rebuild South Africa. To take part and attend the ISS Africa First panel, book online now.

Copies of Jakkie Cilliers’ new book Africa First! Igniting a growth revolution, will be on sale at the conference. Complimentary copies of a new ISS report, South Africa first! Getting to Thuma Mina will also be available.
