Africa and the ‘great game’ of geopolitical influence

As major global powers set their sights on Africa, what role should the continent play?

Africa’s economic growth and expanding political influence have attracted external partners interested in renewing and building relations with the continent. These include traditional allies such as the European Union, China and Russia and emerging ones from Asia and the Middle East.

Experts will discuss how Africa engages with the world in a context of global geopolitical divides and competing interests. Ahead of the Africa-France Summit from 8–10 July in Montpellier, this expert dialogue will also reflect on the role that France plays in the continent.
