The South African Transitional Peace Process

This seminar discussed the South African transitional process from the apartheid era to the ‘new’ democratic South Africa.

During South African Week in Brazzaville the attainment of freedom and democracy in South Africa on 27 April 1994 was celebrated. In this week a political seminar was held to discuss the South African transitional process from the apartheid era to the ‘new’ democratic South Africa.

The object of the seminar was to share the South African experiences of transition to freedom with representatives from the Republic of Congo to allow the drawing of lessons relevant to the unique challenges they face. The seminar was jointly organised by the South African Embassy in Brazzaville, the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (IDASA) and the Institute for Security Studies (ISS). It was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Brazzaville, who provided the conference facilities, and was made possible by the financial support from the Swiss Cooperation Office in South Africa.

This CD-ROM was an interactive compilation of the papers delivered during the seminar.
