Youth Ambassadors for Peace: how did they fare?

This policy brief highlights key contributions made by the first cohort of Africa’s youth ambassadors in the peace arena.

This policy brief reflects on the tenure of the first cohort of African Youth Ambassadors for Peace. It emphasises the ways in which they contributed to promoting youth participation in efforts to achieve peace on the continent. Because youth ambassadors are integral to the acknowledgement, support and promotion of young people’s contribution, policymakers need to enhance their working relations with Africa’s youth ambassadors.

About the authors 

Sibusisiwe Nkosi is a peace and security advocate and practitioner who is passionate about youth, peace and security issues in Africa. 

Dr Rhuks Ako is a Senior Analyst with the African Union’s (AU) Political Affairs, Peace and Security Department where he coordinates the Y4P Africa Program. 

Professor Charles Ukeje from Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria was the lead author of the AU/PSC-mandated continental study on the roles and contributions of youth to peace and security in Africa.
