Conducting quantitative survey research: Training manual
This manual details the process followed in the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of large-scale survey research.
This manual is intended to be a guide for those undertaking large-scale survey-based research projects. Research can take many forms, and entail the use of many varied tools, that depend on the required outcome and objectives of the study. As in any project, the success of the excercise is largely dependant on selecting the right tools, and furthermore, on knowing how to use those tools effectively.
This manual details the process followed in the design, planning, implementation and monitoring of large-scale survey research. It is based on the National Crime Victimisation Survey conducted by the National Statistics Office`s Crime and Justice Statistics Division in Malawi during May 2003. It also provides detailed suggestions and lessons on how to conduct interviews in a survey context, and how-to, how-not-to, potential pitfalls, and conduct in field. The objective is to provide a resource that may be used in designing and managing large-scale surveys by both those new to research and experienced project managers and researchers.
