The phrase ‘African solutions for African problems’ is for some a hackneyed cliché and for others a pragmatic principle used by the African Union (AU) and its member states to demonstrate that Africa is both willing and able to address its own set of complex crises. This issue of the African Security Review includes articles that focus on different ways in which Africa is using continental and regional partnerships to find home-grown solutions to a range of human security issues.
