Over the next two weeks, top researchers and analysts from ISS offices in Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Dakar and Pretoria will brief development partners and stakeholders in seven capitals across northern Europe on the latest security developments in Africa.

Having recently returned from field research trips in Mali, Somalia, Niger, Zimbabwe and Guinea, briefings will focus on the tensions in the Sahara-Sahel region that ranges from Somalia to Mauritania where the very existence of fragile states is under threat from new sources. The team will also discuss the new optimism generated by impressive growth rates in most African countries and the consequences for perceptions about Africa.

Initiated 10 years ago by the ISS, this annual series of policy briefings, seminars and conferences with senior representatives of governments and think tanks presents a unique opportunity to advance African perspectives on continental and global security in Europe. This year, the ISS team will meet with Africa desk officers in the ministries of foreign affairs in Sweden, Norway, Finland, Denmark, The Netherlands, France and Belgium.
