What is the success factor behind SA’s latest public safety policy?

Accurate crime information is central to the effectiveness of the White Paper on Safety and Security.

The White Paper on Safety and Security is South Africa’s latest flagship policy on crime and violence prevention. If properly implemented, it could significantly improve safety in the country.

Reliable crime data is central to the policy’s success. It envisages interventions informed by evidence about the causes and proven remedies for crime problems. These include early childhood care, school-based programmes, youth and family interventions, strategies to deal with violence against women, community projects, law enforcement, criminal justice, and more.

At this seminar, experts in a number of these fields will discuss how data can be used to identify at-risk places and people, and evidence-based interventions to make them safer.
