West Africa strengthens its maritime security capabilities
Solutions are being initiated throughout the region, but are they complementary?
Seafarers working on vessels throughout the Gulf of Guinea operate in arguably the most insecure maritime environment in the world. Effective law enforcement far out at sea has long been a challenge for most regional states. But changes are underway. A number of significant regional initiatives have been launched in 2021 to improve West African states' ability to combat piracy and other maritime security threats.
This seminar will discuss the implications of changes to West Africa's maritime security architecture and explore how these are assisting and amplifying regional capabilities.
