Two new candidates are in the running to replace current African Union Commission Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma.

Kenya recently announced its nomination of foreign secretary Amina Mohamed. Meanwhile, the Economic Community of West African States confirmed that UN Special Representative for Central Africa Abdoulaye Bathily would be its candidate.

This View on Africa will be presented by Liesl Louw-Vaudran, ISS Consultant and editor of the ISS’ Peace and Security Council Report. She will discuss the frontrunners for the second round of elections on 30 – 31 January 2017 in Addis Ababa.
