View on Africa: SA’s political turmoil

Can South Africa recover from its self-inflicted crisis?

South Africa is in the midst of a self-inflicted political crisis. After President Jacob Zuma’s axing of finance minister Pravin Gordhan, the country’s institutional vulnerabilities have been laid bare. The divisions within the ruling ANC have also never been as stark.

Although some civil society groups are fighting back, can this be converted to a sustainable movement for change? And is the ANC able to renew itself and provide better leadership?

This View on Africa is presented by Judith February, ISS Consultant. She will discuss possible outcomes of the current crisis.
