South Africa’s latest Victims of Crime Survey and police quarterly crime statistics have just been released. Murder and robbery statistics are the best indicators of how safe people are – unfortunately both crimes continue to increase. Why is this the case and what trends do these figures show?

This View on Africa is presented by Gareth Newham, Head of the Crime and Justice Programme, ISS Pretoria. He will cover key crime and public safety challenges confronting South Africa.
